How to find us

The town of Arnad is situated in an area where the Valley widens out, forming a small plain, and is 361 metres above sea level. Agriculture has remained strong in this area, and this is now supported by industrial activities of some importance.

The church of San Martino , a small Romanesque gem, is very well-known. It is just outside the town centre and was built around 1000, enlarging a previous building with only one nave. Inside it has three naves separated by low pillars, round arches and three semicircular apses. The Baroque altar made with golden wood is noteworthy. The belltower, rebuilt around 1600, has a slender pyramid shaped spire.

The Machaby Sanctuary in the small valley of the same name and only 3 kilometres from Arnad, also has very old origins. Some statues sculpted with greenstone stand in the square in front of it.

To the west of the town and not far from the town centre, there is a large rock face that is appreciated and visited by a lot of Free-climbing enthusiasts.

Arnad is rightly famous for the production of “Arnad Lard”, a tasty and aromatic cold cut that is seasoned with salt, spices and mountain herbs: it is never missing on a board of typical Valle d'Aosta antipasti, and is often served with warm chestnuts in butter. For almost thirty years on the last Sunday of August, the “Lard Festival” has been held, an event where producers exhibit and offer tastings of family made lard.
